A Sierra Leonean national, Abubakarr Kamara, who resided with his daughter, Sylvia Blessing Kamara, at 16 Nylander Street, Aberdeen, Western Area, Freetown, has reportedly gone missing following threats and alleged attacks on his life.

According to information gathered, Mr. Kamara came under intense scrutiny after a video recording and commentary he shared on social media on November 26, 2023, the day of the attempted coup against President Julius Maada Bio.

In the video, which later went viral, Mr. Kamara was heard making comments perceived by many as supportive of the actions of the coup plotters. The footage reportedly showed real-time movements of heavily armed soldiers and civilians in his community, with chants including “Maada must go” and “Death to any betrayer.”

Following the circulation of the video, Mr. Kamara and his daughter allegedly became targets of verbal harassment and physical threats from individuals believed to be government supporters, political party sympathizers, and members of the public. The situation reportedly escalated to the point where Mr. Kamara was publicly branded a traitor, including within his workplace.

Investigations further indicate that Mr. Kamara was employed by a major commercial bank in Freetown (name withheld for security reasons). Both the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the bank reportedly initiated internal inquiries after Mr. Kamara was suspected of playing a role in disseminating information linked to the attempted coup. These allegations, however, remain unproven.

With assistance from neighbors and relatives, Mr. Kamara is said to have escaped in the dead of night, leaving behind his elderly mother, his daughter, and two other dependents. Since his reported disappearance on March 17, 2025, he has neither been seen nor heard from.

Concern is now growing within the community over the safety of Mr. Kamara’s family members, who remain in the area and are reportedly living in fear after receiving numerous anonymous threatening phone calls, which have been reported to the police.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
